ASPPA College of Pension Actuaries Announces 2012 Leadership

ACOPA Elects New President &
Leadership Council

ARLINGTON, VA (August 16, 2011) – The ASPPA College of Pension Actuaries (ACOPA) announced election results and the new leadership took office Saturday August 13 at their business meeting held in conjunction with their Actuarial Symposium held in Boston.

Joseph Nichols will serve as president for the 2011-2012 year. Nichols is president of the firm McCloud & Nichols in Liberty, Missouri. He has provided pension actuarial services to clients since 1988, serving as the primary actuary and account manager for many pension accounts, ranging from a one-life sole proprietor plan to a 25,000-life state fund. Joe holds a degree in Actuarial Science from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. In addition to his membership in the ASPPA College of Pension Actuaries, Nichols is an Associate in the Society of Actuaries, an Enrolled Actuary, and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries. Until recently, he also served on the Advisory Committee to the Joint Board for the Enrollment of Actuaries. He became President-elect of ACOPA in August, 2010, and took office as President on August 13, 2011.

“I look forward to working with the other ACOPA and ASPPA leaders to further enhance ACOPA’s value to our membership, and our role in the broader actuarial community,” said Nichols.

ACOPA is governed by a Leadership Council nominated and elected by its members. ACOPA is responsible for meeting the education and training needs of pension actuaries, and representing the views of ASPPA’s actuarial membership by commenting on proposed regulations and legislation affecting actuarial issues. All credentialed actuarial members of ASPPA are members of ACOPA and are eligible to vote, nominate and run for office.

Members of the ASPPA College of Pension Actuaries elected the following new officers:

Mark Dunbar (President Elect)
David Lipkin (Vice President)
Kurt Piper (Vice President)
Lynn Young (Secretary)
Eugene Joseph (Budget Officer)

Other newly-elected ACOPA Leadership Council Members are William G. Karbon, John R. Markley, and Stephen R. Parks who will each serve for three year terms.

These newly elected Leadership Council Members will join Andrew Ferguson, Richard Kutikoff, G. Neff McGhie, Norman Levinrad, Karen Smith, and Clifford Woodhall on the Leadership Council, along with Past President Annie Voldman and Penultimate Past President Mary Ann Rocco.
