ASPPA College of Pension Actuaries Announces 2012-2013 Leadership
ACOPA Elects New Leadership Council
CHICAGO (August 11, 2012) – The ASPPA College of Pension Actuaries (ACOPA) announced Leadership Council election results today at their annual business meeting held in conjunction with the ACOPA Actuarial Symposium in Chicago.
Mark Dunbar will serve as president for the 2012-2013 year. Dunbar is president of Dunbar, Bender & Zapf, Inc. in Pittsburgh and has more than 30 years of experience as a pension consultant specializing in design options within qualified retirement plans. In addition to his membership in the ASPPA College of Pension Actuaries, he serves on the ASPPA Board of Directors and as co-chair of the ASPPA Government Affairs Committee, Dunbar is an enrolled actuary and member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
“This upcoming year will be an exciting one in the retirement plan community, and I look forward to working with the leaders of ACOPA and ASPPA to bring our unique perspective to the national dialogue on retirement policy,” said Dunbar.
ACOPA is governed by a Leadership Council nominated and elected by its members. ACOPA is responsible for meeting the education and training needs of pension actuaries, and representing the views of ASPPA’s actuarial membership by commenting on proposed regulations and legislation affecting actuarial issues. All credentialed actuarial members of ASPPA are members of ACOPA and are eligible to vote, nominate and run for office.
“Serving as the ACOPA President for the 2011-12 year has been a highlight of my career. I have had the pleasure of working with many dedicated volunteers, excellent ASPPA staff and a group of the most talented actuaries in the business,” said Joseph Nichols, current president. “I feel that we have enhanced the value of an ACOPA membership, and at the same time, forged lifelong friendships.”
Members of the ASPPA College of Pension Actuaries elected the following new officers for one-year terms beginning October 30, 2012:

ACOPA Leadership Council Members elected for the new term are Lauren Okum, Alan Stone and Clifford Woodhall, who will each serve for three year terms. These new members will join Andrew Ferguson, William G. Karbon, Richard Kutikoff, John R. Markley, G. Neff McGhie, III, and Stephen R. Parks on the leadership Council, along with Past President Joseph Nichols and Penultimate Past President Annie Voldman.
