Brings 12+ years of Regulatory expertise to ASPPA

ARLINGTON, VA (April 4, 2013)—The American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries (ASPPA) today announced Ronald J. Triche will join ASPPA as Assistant General Counsel and Director of Government Affairs.

Triche comes to ASPPA from Trucker Huss, where he served as retirement plan benefits attorney for 12 years, practicing in the areas of ERISA and qualified plans. Prior to that, Triche practiced in New Orleans.

In his role as Director of Government Affairs, Triche will manage the ASPPA Government Affairs Committee and develop regulatory comments through a committee process, draft summaries of agency guidance and present ASPPA’s position to agencies such as the DOL, IRS, PBGC, SEC and on Capitol Hill. Triche will also serve as in-house assistant general counsel to ASPPA.

“We are happy to have an individual with Triche’s expertise and knowledge of ERISA joining ASPPA. His previous work as a volunteer with ASPPA and the Western Pension & Benefits Council demonstrates his commitment to our mission of working to protect America’s retirement,” said Craig Hoffman, ASPPA General Counsel and Director of Regulatory Affairs.

While at Trucker Huss, Triche focused his practice on all legal aspects of qualified retirement plans, 401(k) and 403(b) plans, and multiemployer and Taft-Hartley plans. He helped clients with administrative issues; various plan qualification matters; Qualified Domestic Relations Order reviews; Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 issues; and preparation of plan documents, Summary Plan Descriptions and plan amendments. Triche also assisted clients in the successful completion of Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Department of Labor (DOL) and Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) plan audits. In addition, he prepared many applications on behalf of clients under the various IRS and DOL correction programs.

“As an ASPPA member since 2008, I look forward to the opportunity to work closely with the ASPPA team to expand our outreach in retirement and regulatory issues. I believe good policy starts with clearly defined regulations and I look forward to exploring and clarifying the issues our members deal with each day in their interaction with plan sponsors and participants,” said Triche.

Triche will join ASPPA’s Government Affairs team on April 22.
